Logic Certification, through its network of approved centres, is now accredited to deliver a new ACS course which ensures best practice in the detection of Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2 ) within domestic dwellings. The first centre to successfully provide ' Carbon monoxide/Dioxide atmosphere and appliance testing' (CMDDA1) is SGAS in Blackpool, with over 40 candidates having successfully completed the assessment.
This new addition to the ACS scheme tests the competence of an operative in determining ambient levels of CO and CO2 in dwellings, using a portable electronic combustion analyser. The course is of particular relevance to those responsible for social housing and local authority building stock, as well as lead engineers within larger organisations.
Mark Krull, from Logic Certification, explains: "There are more CO alarms being fitted in response to the publicised dangers of CO and, as a consequence, more reports of alarms being activated. The CMDDA1 assessment will demonstrate that engineers are competent to apply the procedures detailed in BS7967 when responding to genuine CO alarm activation. Companies must show that reports of CO are dealt with in way that meets or exceeds BS7967 - this new assessment is an industry recognised method to ensure your engineers are competent."
CMDDA1 assesses operatives on the following criteria:
- Carrying out ambient CO and CO2sampling and
combustion performance analysis using electronic portable gas
analysers on domestic gas appliances in dwellings following:
- A genuine report of fumes and smells
- A genuine report of the activation of a CO alarm
- Investigate the report of the spillage or leakage of combustion products and the correct methods to ensure appliances and the dwelling are safe.
Candidates are assessed using a variety of methods, including multiple choice, short-written response and scenario questions, as well as observed practical assessment. The assessment covers type A, B and C domestic gas appliances fitted in dwellings. CMDDA1 does not cover incident investigation following an injury or an incident reportable under RIDDOR.
Successful candidates will be issued a Certificate of competence and the results will be notified to Gas Safe Register
