WRAS has issued a statement clarifying the requirements for application onto the Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme (WIAPS). The minimum requirement is an NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Services (Plumbing) alongside a Water Regulations Certificate and sufficient public liability insurance. WRAS will no longer be accepting C&G 6129 supported by a portfolio.
Occasionly, WRAS receives applications from candidates who have achieved C&G's 6129, Technical Certificate in Pumbing. To date, WRAS has accepted this qualification on the condition that the applicant plies their trade as a plumber for 18-24 months and puts together a portfolio with supporting references.
The facility of portfolios and references will come to an end on 31st August with the launch of the new overarching Approved Plumbers Register/Scheme, therefore, WIAPS and the other approved schemes operating in the UK, will not be able to accept future applications supported by the 6129 qualification.
