Gas safety courses for social housing sector

Logic Certification has launched two new qualifications designed to promote gas safety within the social housing sector:

Both QCF awards, the awareness course is ideal for maintenance installers or anyone who works in the social housing sector assisting in the safe running of properties. The management course provides more in-depth training for senior staff with ultimate responsibility for ensuring gas safety. There are no specific pre-requisites, making both courses suitable for non-technical candidates. Courses can be run in a variety of ways, tailored to the individual requirements of trainees, i.e. distance learning or using specific sites.

Mark Krull, from Logic Certifications, explained: "The two new gas safety courses cover all aspects surrounding gas safety, including the detection, effects and dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning, understanding the Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS), gas combustion and chimneys, plus legal obligations for landlords, paperwork and record keeping. Training will help develop knowledge and understanding of the threats posed to social housing residents from unsafe gas equipment, and how these threats can be minimised."

The QCF, which came into play last year, has been designed to improve the way vocational courses are run, promoting more flexibility and greater learner control. Based on units, which have a credit value and level, each qualification and unit is viewed, essentially, as a building block, with each holding a credit value and a level. These new courses join a host of other nationally recognised QCF qualifications , including several for the electrical trade, with more planned over the coming months.
