Every year Logic Certification approved centres get together to find out the latest qualifications on offer, what's happening in the building services engineering sector and how these influences might affect their businesses. Keeping abreast of industry changes is key to meeting learner needs and responding to market demands - essential for the ongoing success of LCL.
On 29th June, delegates from Logic Certification centres throughout the UK, met up in Kegworth, East Midlands, for a full day of workshops delivered by the Logic Certification team and other representatives from industry; including electrical trade body, NAPIT and leading renewables provider NAREC Distributed Energy.
With a number of significant changes for both LCL and the industry at large, this was an important event, which proved extremely useful for attendees.

F-Gas: Mark Krull from Logic Certification introduced the new F Gas qualifications - one of the main announcements of the day. Following recognition by DEFRA as a certification and evaluation body, LCL now offers Level 2 and Level 3 - the Level 3 being a first for the industry, with the four different categories split out to make learning more suitable for operative requirements. Managed Learning Programme (MLP): From October this year the route to Gas Safe Registration is being updated and as a requirement of IGEM/IG/1 Standards of Training in Gas Work, all relevant MLP's (ACS or NVQ's) will change to reflect these updates. For learners, this means the process of becoming Gas Safe Registered will become harder and take a little longer, in order to ensure high standards within our industry.
18th Edition Wiring Regulations: Michael Collinge from NAPIT and Phil Williams from Logic Certification provided an overview of the new 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, set to be issued on 1st January 2018, with the intention that they come into force by the same time the following year. There have been a number of proposed amendments and additions - if you want to have your say, the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations is currently under consultation. Installers can comment, here until the 23rd August.
Logic Certification's Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations qualification will be updated when the new Wiring regulations are issued in January.
Gas Auditing qualifications: Logic Certification's new Gas Auditing Qualifications were introduced. One qualification has been designed for those responsible for auditing gas work to check it is safe and has been installed and serviced correctly, the other is specifically for those undertaking gas auditing as part of a businesses' work management procedures. What's next for renewables? Tom Bradley from NAREC Distributed Energy, a LCL renewables training centre, that also provides renewable technology R&D, installation and large-scale grid connection, discussed the future of renewables; a sector that despite cut-backs in funding continues to grow. Covering everything from the RHI and FiTs, to the latest in battery storage and integrated solar PV solutions, 'going green' should still be very much on the agenda for the building services sector and the UK as a whole.
