In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment

This regulated qualification is for learners with an electrical background that wish to demonstrate their knowledge at “Level 2” for the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment in the UK. This qualification covers both portable and fixed appliances and is based on the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 5^th Edition and is aligned to BS7671.

The qualification provides under pinning knowledge to comply with current legislation and the new requirements laid out in the code of practice and is designed for both operatives and managers of premises and employee’s.

“Levels 1” and “Level 2” as defined in the CoP 5^th Edition.

• The applications, objectives and definitions within the Code of Practice for the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment
• The statutory and non-statutory requirements relevant to the maintenance of electrical equipment
• The electrical units, circuits and components associated with in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
• The equipment construction and classifications and how these relate to protection against electric shock
• The procedures for the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
• How to carry out inspection and testing of electrical equipment
• The information and documentation relating to in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
• Inspect and test items of electrical equipment

Although there are no formal pre-requisites to this qualification but it is recommended that candidates should have suitable knowledge of electrical theory and ideally be working within the electrical or a related industry. Candidates should contact their local centre for further advice and guidance on suitability to undertake the qualification.
