Background:

This regulated RQF qualification in the requirements of electrical installations has been designed to allow learners to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations. This qualification (or similar) maybe required for operatives wishing to join some Electrical Registration Bodies, Competent Person Schemes or the Microgeneration Scheme.

This qualification has been updated to cover the additional criteria in Amendment 2 (2022) of BS 7671:2018 and is designed to promote Safety and Competence within the Electrotechnical Sector.

Learners undertaking this qualification will typically be updating their current competence or undertaking continuous professional development.

Learners outcomes:

The objective of this qualification is for learners to demonstrate they know the scope, object and fundamental principles of BS 7671, along with the definitions used within BS 7671, how to assess the general characteristics of electrical installations and the requirements of protection for safety of electrical installations.

Learners will know the requirements for selection and erection of equipment for electrical installations along with the requirements for the inspection and testing of electrical installations.

Learners will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of special installations and locations as identified in BS 7671 and along with the information contained within Part 8 and the Appendices of BS 7671.

Pre-requisites:

There are no formal pre-requisites to this qualification but it is recommended that learners should have suitable knowledge of electrical theory and ideally be working within the electrical industry.

The guided learning hours (GLH) for this qualification may vary depending on whether the learner holds a qualification covering the requirements of BS 7671 (2018) or not, details are provided below:

  1. Full GLH and assessment route: Normally 4-5 days (35 hr) followed by the 60 question on-line assessment.
  2. CPD training and assessment route: Experienced learners may undertake a one day guided learning session covering the differences in this version of the regulations followed by the 60 question on-line assessment. Experienced Learners must produce an original BS7671:2018 certificate to the centre (an authenticated electronic copy is to be retained within the learner’s portfolios)
  3. Online training and assessment route; Learners may choose to undertake a recognised on-line training platform such as the IET training course followed by the 60 question on-line assessment.
