Moor Training: “Setting the standard for plumbing and heating training”
08 Oct 2018Moor Training, based in Devon, is a specialist training provider delivering plumbing and heating courses, Level 1, 2 and 3 apprenticeships, ACS gas assessments and environmental courses.
Built from the ground up by an all-female team just two years ago, the centre takes pride in its purpose-built training facilities and is committed to providing exceptional training that prepares plumbers and gas engineers for the future demands of the industry.
The centre has worked with Logic Certification (LCL) from the outset and offers a wide range of LCL plumbing and heating qualifications. We spoke to Centre Manager, Aimee Worrall, about the development of the centre over the past two years and how LCL has helped it to achieve its ambitious goals:
LCL: Hi Aimee. Can you tell us a little bit about why you decided to set up a new training centre?
AW: I was working for one of the largest plumbing and heating companies in the South West when it became apparent that the quality of employee training, short courses and apprenticeships was inadequate and did not meet the company’s needs. My colleague Helen Knowles and I were offered the opportunity to fill this gap in the market by setting up a purpose-built training centre focussing solely on the plumbing and heating sector.
Helen was the first female registered gas engineer in the South West and ran her own successful business for many years before re-training as a teacher and assessor. Setting up a new centre from scratch was extremely tough and it took a lot of hard work. The fact that we were breaking into such a heavily male-dominated environment only spurred us on to achieve our targets and prove those that doubted us wrong.
LCL: And two years later, how is the centre doing?
AW: The first 24 months of trading have been challenging but we’ve achieved greater results than we could have imagined. The fact that we serve a niche market from such an accessible location has enabled us to reach out to plumbers and heating engineers far and wide, offering dedicated training and assessments in state-of-the-art facilities.
LCL: What made you choose Logic Certification over other certification bodies?
AW: Logic Certification was highly recommended to us by Worcester Bosch, which also run courses from our centre along with Adey and Polypipe. Our working relationship with Logic Certification is exceptional and they are always on hand to support us in developing our offering. They have provided help and guidance from the word go, during the design of the centre right through to the expansion we see today.
LCL: What challenges do you think heating engineers of the future will face and how do you cater for this?
AW: There are continuous changes happening within the gas and heating industries as we move towards a low carbon future. New regulations are being brought in, such as Boiler Plus, and others tightened up to eliminate those performing unsafe, illegal and potentially fatal gas work. We support the gas safety message by offering candidate focussed training from one purpose-built location, providing quality throughout, from classroom and practical learning to assessment.
LCL: What is your vision for the future of the centre?
AW: Due to continued expansion, we have already recruited an additional teacher and an administration assistant, which has enabled us to deal with the growing number of enquiries and offer additional courses to accommodate engineer requirements. We plan to expand our range of courses and apprenticeships further, staying within the plumbing and heating sector as we work towards our aim of setting the standard of quality training in the South West and nationwide.
