A procurement exercise was launched at the beginning of the month to appoint a new organisation to operate as the Standard Setting Body (SSB) once the present incumbent, E&U Skills, steps down at the end of March next year.

The SSB facilitates the gas industry Standard Setting process; managing the consultation, development and implementation of the competence criteria relating to the matter of Gas Safety, which all experienced gas engineers are required to meet and maintain in order to achieve and retain registration with Gas Safe Register.

The Strategic Management Board (SMB) has convened a panel of industry stakeholders to assess and decide who will be the new provider.  The new SSB will be selected through an independent procurement process operated by Capita Procurements Services under the control and authorisation of the SMB and HSE.

Once selected, the new provider will be contracted to hold the position from 1^st April 2020 until 2024.
