Midlands Gas & Electrical Training prides itself on being a family business with over thirty years’ experience in the gas and electrical engineering sectors.

The training centre, based on the outskirts of Dudley in the West Midlands, offers a comprehensive range of LCL Awards’ Gas and Electrical courses and has been designed and built with the learner in mind.

Keith Taylor, who works as trainer, assessor and IV at the centre explains: “At Midlands Gas & Electrical we know the challenges that learners face in getting themselves on a new career path. We work with candidates from all sorts of backgrounds with different levels of skill. Our staff are not just ‘technically competent’, they’ve been chosen because they have a passion for delivering high standards of service from start to finish.

“During the construction of the training centre, we worked hard to ensure our learners have the space and equipment they need to achieve maximum practical skills and competency, in order to meet the high standards set out by IGEM/IG1.

Flexible learning

“We need to be flexible to help people reach their goals. A recent addition to our gas training courses is a weekend package, which we run every other Saturday and Sunday, so that those who need to work during the week can still train with us. Learners on this package get the same amount of guided learning time as those on our full time course – just spread out over five months.

Support where it counts

“When it came to certification, we were primarily looking for an accreditation body that would set high standards and provide us with a ‘robust’ technical support team. We were also looking for an organisation that was approachable, with a friendly attitude to support during challenging times, such as the recent COVID pandemic. Having worked with multiple certification bodies in the past we felt that LCL Awards would fit the bill nicely and the decision to offer their qualifications was a ’no brainer’. The support they’ve given us over the last few months has been second to none.

“We currently offer LCL Awards’ domestic gas training, LPG & unvented hot water as well as ACS assessment for both new and experienced engineers. On the electrical side, we deliver their Domestic Electrical Installer course as a basis for three training packages we’ve designed: Bronze, Silver and Gold.”
