Gas Safe to focus on regulation of G3 certification

10 Mar 2021

Gas Safe Register is instigating new policy on checking G3 qualifications (also known as an Unvented Hot Water qualifications)

What is Gas Safe planning to do?

In order to ensure best practice and keep safety standards high, Gas Safe Register is going to be taking a more active role in checking that engineers who self-certify the installation of unvented hot water cylinders, are up to date with their certification.

Over the next few months, they will be contacting a number of registered businesses by email to request a copy of the engineers’ G3 unvented qualification certificate. G3 certification lasts five years, so engineers should check that their qualifications have not expired, that the date of issue on their certificate falls within the five year period.

What your centre can do

As some engineers may have let their G3 certification lapse, it would be a good idea to spread the word. Or indeed contact those on your database whose qualification is nearing its end date to let them know - and to suggest they update their certification with you in the near future.
