LCL Awards part of IGEM review of gas training standards
30 Sep 2019Operations Manager, Neill Ovenden, is representing LCL Awards in a review of IGEM/IG/1: The Standards of Training in Gas Work. The first meeting of the panel, made up of representatives from industry such as Certification Bodies, employers, Energy & Utility Skills & IGEM, took place on Friday 20th September.
IGEM/IG/1 provides Awarding Organisations, trainers, trainee gas engineers and employers with standards and a set of criteria to follow with regards to the quality of training, in order to enable gas engineers achieve full competence. The document gives the sector an agreed structure for those entering and continuing to work in the industry, along with those delivering training. It sets out a clear, robust route ensuring those that satisfy the standards are well-trained, knowledgeable and, most importantly, able to undertake safe gas work.
There will be two further review meetings, where feedback on the standards will be reviewed. Once the review process is complete the new set of standards will be submitted to industry for comment before a final document is published in 2020.
