Jim Mckinnon, EV for LCL Awards presenting Matthew Blance with the LCL Awards' Shield 

This year’s LCL Awards’ Shield has been awarded to Matthew Blance from Shetland, an apprentice at Moray College UHI. Matthew, who is employed by Steven Johnston, was given the award for being the Best Gas, Oil and Renewables Apprentice at the college’s annual prize-giving ceremony on September 26^th. The Martin Group, specialists in test instrumentation, supported us in donating an AGP45 gas leak pen as part of Matthew’s prize.

Mark Krull, director of LCL Awards said: "LCL Awards is pleased to support Moray College in their recognition of the excellent skills and workmanship achieved by their students, all of whom are outstanding ambassadors for our industry."

Jim McKinnon, the college’s centre manager and External Verifier for LCL Awards, presented the shield on our behalf at the ceremony, where a total of 22 prizes were awarded to students in the college’s construction department. Sam Bright, head of curriculum (STEM) at Moray College, gave the welcome address and the guest speaker at the event was Janice Leask, Vocational Training Co-ordinator for Training Shetland.

Moray College, which has been an LCL Awards approved centre since 2006 is a community college, offering further education courses with a strong work-based focus where course content is delivered in realistic work environments and during work placements.

Matthew has also won the Moray Council Building Services Shield for Best Advanced Craft Plumber and the Speyside Plumbing Services Ltd Trophy for Best Lead Development 3rd Year.
