Train for the future with new Electrical Energy Storage Systems qualification from LCL Awards
06 May 2021We have launched a new qualification in the installation of Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS). One of the first of its kind, the LCL Awards Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Commissioning of Electrical Energy Storage Systems will cater for experienced electrical or renewable energy installers who want to upskill to meet the demands of a low-carbon future.
Demand for EESS technologies has grown considerably in recent years, driven by an increase in renewable generation from solar PV and wind power and growing demand for electricity from the heat and transport sectors.
The new award is a regulated qualification aimed at practicing electricians or electrical technicians who hold a formal Level 3 electrical qualification and current BS7671. It will cover all the key requirements for the installation of EESS, including identification of equipment, arrangements and operating modes, design, installation, initial verification and handover.
The qualification has been designed in conjunction with the latest IET Code of Practice and is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
Mark Krull from LCL Awards said: “We are delighted to be one of the first awarding bodies to offer qualification in EESS installation. This Level 3 award is ideal for electricians who work on properties with small-scale renewable systems in place, or who install solar PV or domestic wind turbines, allowing them to update their skills set and offer a more complete service.
“Electrical energy storage is a new but rapidly developing sector that offers great potential for the low-carbon society, allowing individual buildings to become more self-sufficient and energy efficient. Qualified installers are absolutely crucial to this process and as an awarding body, we are always looking to facilitate learning around emerging technologies to meet future demand.”
