Electric Vehicles have been big news this week. Not only has the government announced it’s bringing forward a ban on selling new petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles from 2040 to 2035 in order to help meet the UK’s zero emissions pledge for 2050, the IET has published its Amendment 1 to BS 7671:2018 (IET Wiring Regulatons 18^th Edition) in relation to the earthing of electrical charging equipment at electric vehicle charging points.

Technological developments in EV charging equipment over the last couple of years have made the installation of the EV charging equipment safer and quicker. The IET has updated the regulations in order to reflect this.  Amendment 1 includes changes to Section 722, Electric Vehicle Charging Installations and can be read online or a copy purchased through the IET’s website.

Greener vehicles on our roads

According to the International Energy Agency's 2017 EV outlook, projections by National Grid suggest that the UK stock of EVs could reach between 2.7 and 10.6 million by 2030 and rise as high as 36 million by 2040. With the number of EVs on the road growing exponentially year-on-year and a huge, pressing demand for EV charging points to support them, there’s never been a better time to promote the new EV charging qualification, we launched last year.
