We have updated our Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI) qualification and it will be available from the end of March, with full implementation from 1^st May 2020.

Who is it for?

The new DEI2020 is designed for those who aren’t fully qualified electricians, but are required to carry out some electrical work as part of their professional role.

It’s not for new entrants or those looking to become full-time electricians, but suitable for plumbers who need to install showers or those installing cookers as part of a kitchen-fitting role for example, as it complies with current building regulations and BS7671:2018.

The new Domestic Electrical Installer course is a comprehensive course covering the foundations and practical aspects of planning, installing, fault-finding and commissioning of small electrical works.

There’s a focus on safety, regulations, standards and terminology to equip learners with all they need to undertake small electrical works in domestic settings proficiently and safely.

Entry requirements:

Entrants need to be at least 18 years of age, and assessed to have a suitable level of English and Mathematics to understand course content.

Assessments process:

The course has been designed by our new technical expert, Steve Humphreys, who believes it is more streamlined, using modern technology to enhance the assessment process.

Learners are assessed in three ways:

• Centre-based assessments of eight practical projects presented in a newly designed workbook 
• A center-based design assessment
• A new 40 question dynamic on-line examination, which is available on the Xams system. Please note: There is no paper-based version of this exam.
