New government website creates opportunity to promote renewables training
10 Aug 2022
As part of its Energy Security Strategy, the government has set up a new energy advice website for the general public, to help homeowners chose home improvements they can make to enhance energy efficiency and thereby cut fuel bills.
With the impending rises in energy prices due this autumn and winter, it is hoped that a bit of remedial action now will help people cope more easily with the rising cost of living.
Lord Callanan, Business and Energy Minister, who launched the new website at the end of July said:
"With global pressures pushing up fossil fuel prices, it has never been more important to make our homes more energy efficient. This website provides a new and trusted source of information where homeowners can give their property an energy MOT and get clear, impartial advice.’
The website is interactive and homeowners are asked to enter some basic information about their property; such as its age, construction, whether it has loft insulation, double glazing etc. and then they receive recommendations tailored to their individual circumstances.
For each recommendation they can see:
- an estimated cost for making the improvement
- how much they could save on their bills if they make the improvement
- the steps they need to take to make the change
The site links to advice on installing low carbon heating technologies, such as heat pumps. It also explains how to access grants towards the cost of installing these new systems.
Investment in decarbonising homes and businesses
The government is investing more than £3.9 billion of new funding to decarbonise heat and buildings across the country between 2022 and 2025. There’s a real need to train more heat-pump installers as presently there aren’t sufficient numbers of qualified engineers to satisfy demand.
The launch of this website and growing public interest in low-carbon heating technologies provide the perfect opportunity to promote any renewables courses you run and also perhaps think about delivering more.
Renewables from LCL Awards
Our range of renewables qualifications is comprehensive with courses on the installation of heat pumps, solar PVs and solar thermal hot water systems.
We also offer specific qualifications on the installation and commissioning of EV charging points, low temperature heating and hot water systems and for those who are interested in making fossil fuel heating systems run as efficiently as possible, a Level 3 awards in energy efficiency for gars fired and oil fired domestic heating systems.
