Rebus Training in Stoke-on-Trent to offer LCL Awards electrical qualification
17 Feb 2022Jon Grocock and Gary Jackson, who have run Rebus Training in Staffordshire since 2010, have recently been certified to deliver LCL Awards’ Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings qualification.
Rebus Training is a specialist electrical training centre focusing on training apprentices. Both Jon and Gary came to training following many years working in the electrical engineering sector. They started out with the electricity board and after years working in the field, became assessors so they know what it takes.
They’ve done well. Starting small, the company has grown to become a substantial business. They’re now the largest private training centre in Stoke – a one-stop-shop for all electrical training.
Tracy Harker caught up with Jon recently to congratulate him on Rebus Training’s certification:
TH: Jon, it’s good to see you. How are things going?
JG: Great, thanks. We’re really pleased to be offering your LCL Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings qualification to our learners. Although at least 50% of our student cohort are school leavers on apprenticeships, we were keen to provide a growing number of older learners with a smart, efficient way to move into the sector and your training course fits the bill very well.
We’ve noticed in recent months a growth in the number of enquiries from people in their thirties and forties, all looking for a change in career. It makes sense as there’s lots of work for good electricians out there and people are looking for job-security these days.
TH: That’s true, I think the COVID lockdowns have been largely responsible for this and it’s good to see people recognizing the value of good training and secure work.
JG: They do. Although we have a good website and do a certain amount of email marketing, most of our learners come here because of personal recommendation – word-of-mouth. Our trainers are all ex-electricians and our learners like to feel they’re learning from a professional. If they know their tutor has been there and lived it, it’s easier to take things on board – more interesting than a text book!
TH: How have you found the approval process on deciding to deliver our qualification?
JG: It’s been very good. Obviously there’s a lot to take in when you sign up with a new Awarding Body. There’s obviously been a lot of information specific to LCL Awards that we’ve had to get out heads around, but you and Steve Humphreys have been prepared to spend the time with us. It’s good to know that you’re on the end of the phone if we need you. It counts for a lot.
TH: Thank you, that’s great to hear. We appreciate that embracing a new system takes time and we do all we can to streamline the process. Supporting our new centres is one of our prime focuses and I’m really glad to hear that you feel we’ve been there for you.
I’m really pleased you’ve chosen this qualification, it’s been very well received by industry and I wish you all the very best in delivering it!
