Last September, Logic Certification (LCL) launched two new qualifications for those with responsibilities for auditing gas businesses. One of the first approved centres to deliver the new qualifications was GET (Gas Educational Training) in Glasgow. It’s first group of Gas Auditing Learners attained the Level 3 Award in Auditing a Gas Business at the end of November. Most of these learners are now working towards the second qualification in Auditing a Gas Business’s Work Management Procedures.

As part of the European Union’s efforts to tackle climate change, the new F-gas regulations call for the use of lower GWP refrigerants in order to meet the goals set by the EU for 2020.

Following a lengthy period of consultation throughout 2016 and 2017, The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has updated its Approved Code of Practice (ACOP); setting out regulations around the installation and servicing of gas appliances. We’ve been given access to a draft version of the new L56 guidance document, which, subject to parliamentary approval, will come in to effect from 6^th April 2018.

The Gas Safe Register has recently published The Decade Review, an independent report it commissioned the research company, Accent, to undertaken on its behalf. The report offers a review of the state of UK’s gas industry and outlines changes that have been made since the  creation of Gas Safe Register in April 2009. Participants of the new survey and focus groups were invited to raise their current concerns, review how things have changed and over the past 10 years and to look at the challenges that lie ahead for the gas industry.

A Government working group set up to improve electrical safety standards and regulation in the private rental sector (PRS) has published a list of recommendations, due to growing concerns about tenant safety.

With the introduction of second generation Smart Meters (SMETS2) from next year, concerns relating to the accuracy and security of the first generation meters (SMETS1) are being addressed and the future for Smart Meters is looking a lot more positive.

Legislation relating to F-Gas has been updated recently and there are changes to requirements in qualifications for those who work on systems and equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-Gas).
